1. The first image is an extreme close up of the boy's eyes, this could be to allow the audience to read his emotions through the expression given by them. The eyes are blue which could be a reflection of the river that he sits by or his deeper feelings of sadness as he watches over a girl who has died
2. This long, establishing shot allows the audience to realise what has happened in the scene as we see the river/stream, the dead girl and the boy kneeling beside. The tunnel in the background is a black hole which could portray the death and sadness that consumes the boy as well as the loss of life for the girl.
Images 3, 4 and 6. Show different body parts of the girl, which denotes the boy looking at her perhaps lovingly or perhaps in regret, examining each part of her body deeply and in turn. The dirty legs suggest that the girl has been through a lot and that her death was not clean cut and innocent. The blue bangles are seemingly cheap and reflect how the girl may be young and perhaps innocent herself. These bangles are also well presented in a transition between an image of her dead with her arm in the river and alive with her hand opening the locker - images 7 & 8 (match on action).
The final image is white lettering on a plain black background which doesn't give away the plot but portrays negative connotations, drawing the audience into the film and the world within the frame
The blue colour scheme continues throughout the sequence, the colour of the boys eyes, the stream, the sky, the girls bangles and the lockers.

This opening sequence is effective because we as an audience are instantly drawn into the movie. The music is tinny and doesn’t sound very fluent which sounds uneasy and disturbing for the audience thus creating an eerie atmosphere. This sense of eeriness is also portrayed by the blue colour scheme that runs throughout which could reflect the feelings of a character or connote the cold blooded murder that has or the cold blood of the girl who lies dead beside the lake. The lighting is very dull and natural which reflects the mood of the scene, sombre and confused. The shots are all close ups apart from one long shot which establishes how the characters are set out in the scene. The effect of close ups in this opening sequence is to draw us into the film and gain some understanding of the characters state or how they’re feeling (boy’s facial expressions and the various body parts of the girl we suppose has died). The zoom on certain shots directs our attention to a certain area and allows us to pay close attention to what is happening within the frame.
