This selection of screenshots is from the opening sequence of an acclaimed Romantic genre film called 'The Notebook'.

What stood out to me most about this opening sequence was the use of incredibly well composed shots from all angles and shot types (establishing, long, mid) which each kept a similar red/black colour scheme. The colours here are representative of the genre in presenting to the audience a sense of passion and romance.

The titles are white which stands out against the background but also fits in well with the colour scheme, particularly in the shots with the large mansion house. The font is quite curly and traditional looking which instantly in connected with romance as it relates back to the romantic period in History when such fonts were used for letters, gates etc...

Piano music is used throughout which is very gentle and allows the audience to become immersed in the images they see before them. The music is something that might be played at a wedding or even a funeral and therefore connotes love (even if that is a love lost). The slow pace matches the serene atmosphere.
